|1:700 IJN Nos.13-16 Battle Ship (1921)|
These massive ships were cancelled by the 1921 Washington Treaty and would have featured eight 18" guns in four twin turrets on a flush-deck hull. The ships would have measured 915' in length and the hull in 1:700 scale measures a full 16" in length. The kit is a CRAFTSMAN kit, but features some improvements over the original release of this kit from 1995-1999. They were not assigned names, but being the final ships of the 16-ship '8-8' plan, they were known collectively as Hull numbers 13 through 16, or just the No.13-16 class.
This kit is all resin and features 18 parts. All major structural parts are included. Small detailing and superdetailing will need to be done by the modeler. The kit was made from drawings in Siegfried Breyer's book Battleships and Battlecruisers 1905-1970. The drawing shows a fairly simple design, but with some imagination and perhaps some extrapolation from contemporary Japanese designs, some interesting results could be produced from this kit.
