The Port Authority Transportation Corporation (PATCO), a branch of the Delaware River Port Authority in Philadelphia, operates this transit line between Center City Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey suburbs. The line was opened in 1969 and was the first to be automated and computer monitored, predating BART and DC METRO by five years. The cars were built by Budd, and a later batch was built to a similar design by Canadian Vickers.
This model represents the single-ended Budd cars which make up the backbone of PATCO services. (To model the Vickers cars, simply remove the lower skirting.) The model is an entirely new tool which replaces the double-ended car we first produced in 1996.
